Current Important Issues

Minimum Mandatory Penalties (MMPs).  Many clean water agencies are now receiving MMPs notices for permit violations.  The State Water Resouces Control Board prepared an informal guidance document (in question and answer format) regarding the MMP legislation.  Click to open the 2001 SB 709 and SB 2165 Question and Answer word document on MMPs.

Statewide General Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) for all wastewater collection system agencies.  The State Water Resources Control Board is proposing to issue a General Waste Discharge Permit to all public collection systems agencies in the State of California even if the agency already has a treatment plant and a NPDES permit.  There will be a public hearing on the proposed WDR on February 8, 2006 and your comments are requested.  A copy of the draft WDR can be found at http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/sso/

A Draft Total Residual Chlorine and Chlorine-Produced Oxidants Policy proposed by the State Water Resources Control Board is now out for early informal public review.  The State is asking for you to test drive the policy and offer comments prior to its formal review period.  You can find the policy at http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/iswp/chlorine.html.
