Current Events

July 10, 2008: Free SSMP Awareness Training

The Committee is conducting free awareness training in July at 10 locations up and down the valley on the Statewide Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) for Collection Systems. Click here for the flyer.

This 3-hour long training is designed to provide a basic understanding of the electronic reporting and sewer system management plan (SSMP) requirements contained in the WDR and provide some tools to get started on the various requirements of the WDR.

The training is geared towards those responsible for WDR or may need to know more about the requirements in order to approve funding for compliance -- including Collection System Mangers, Superintendents, District Board Members, and Public Works Directors. It is also geared towards those who have not had previous training (through CWEA), especially those working for small systems or systems that have not begun complying with the electronic reporting or SSMP development of the WDR. (Please note, CVCWA encourages you to immediately begin reporting if you have not done so (which is required monthly even if you do not have spills) and not wait for the training.) CWEA will continue to offer in-depth training on various elements of the WDR at a cost. Please see their web site (www.cwea.org) for more information for in-depth training.

If you would like to attend, please let us know either by mailing or emailing the information required on the attached flyer. Space is limited at each location. Also, please feel free to share this flyer with others in your organization that you feel may be interested in this training. CVCWA is partnering with California Rural Water Association in conducting this training.

Finally, CVCWA would like to thank those agencies that have offered to host and/or coordinated arrangements for these training sessions and our trainers.

General Topics and Issues

The committee is working to develop and distribute information about individual wastewater collection systems NPDES Permits and will develop technical, economic, financial and scientific information about permit issues and participate in forums with State, EPA and other organizations.  This may involve the following activities:

  • Develop and agree on a preliminary list of issues for the committee to work on;

  • Disseminate information on the implementation of CMOM requirements;

  • Disseminate information on Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs);

  • Build partnerships with the State and Regional Boards to define and solve wastewater collection systems issues.
